Day 7 of 17 (Nebraska to Colorado)

From: Chadron, NE
To: Ogallala, NE ...just kidding we ended up in Sterling, CO
Miles Driven: 330 Today / 2,520 Total
Miles Hiked: nothing significant / 6.5 Total

So, as mentioned yesterday we knew our destination was destined to be cold, raining, and littered with lightning. Not too fun when your destination is a lake to go swimming.  So ignoring my plans, we went all spontaneous.

We started the morning at a local church. When going to church in a small town you stick out as not only a visitor, but many noticed the CA license plates too.  I got really excited because I really liked how they had the scriptures for the sermon displayed and ran back to the person running the slides after service to find out what they use.

That conversation morphed into some recommendations of places to visit nearby. So knowing our goal for the day was going to be a flop we headed to High Plains Homestead for a mock ghost town visit with some good food.  My steak "sandwich" was just a slab of prime rib on a loaf of bread which was quite a site to behold.

We then started our drive down towards the storms of Ogallala. It was clear the Lake wasn't going to happen but the kids were still happy about the idea of getting to at least swim in the hotel pool. We arrived at the hotel and found out the rain had caused a leak in the electrical something for the pool so it was closed.

So with the day already all off the plan, we booked another hotel an hour away and the hotel we were supposed to stay at graciously cancelled our reservation. First, dinner.

Somewhere on the way to dinner Justin began feeling "off" and by the time we were done he had developed a fever. I took over driving so Justin could sleep on the drive down. So instead of ending in Nebraska we ended in Colorado. It means we get a little extra sleep in the morning since we are closer to our planned destination for tomorrow.

White Water Rafting!! No joke, pray for us. Eli is NOT looking forward to the adventures tomorrow and it is very likely he will scream/cry the entire time.  I know he'll have fun if he gives himself a chance to enjoy it and not live crippled by fear, but he struggles to push beyond fear at all.

Not many pictures because it was pretty uneventful.
