Day 8 of 17 (Colorado)

From: Sterling, CO
To: Loveland, CO
Miles Driven: 129 Today / 2,649 Total
Miles Hiked: 6 paddled today, but we wont count that / 6.5 Total

Since we unexpectedly ended our day yesterday in Colorado instead of Nebraska we got to start the morning off with a couple extra hours of sleep.

We drove to our first stop in Fort Collins for the day to go White Water Rafting (level 3). As I mentioned yesterday, Elijah was NOT a fan of this idea.  A not-so-compassionate pep talk of "we paid for it, you will get on the boat, and you don't have to have fun, but you aren't allowed to cry" and we were on our way.  A nice 80 degree day with 40 degree water made up of recently melted snow.  It was freezing, but awesome.

Eli did as he was told and held back his tears, but he was refusing to enjoy himself.  There are parts of the river that are level 4 so we had to get out and back in further down stream. For the 2nd half he finally had a smile on his face and we even got a few "weeee" in there. The girls had a blast and there was only 1 point that we hit a rock I thought might knock one of us out. We managed to stay on the entire time (although Taylor was not-so-quietly wishing she'd end up in the water so she could swim).

Our tour guide was awesome and I think his horrible jokes is what finally broke Elijah's shell.

Then to dinner to meet up with Janae! We had some amazing pizza and grabbed dessert from a local cookie shop.

What could top this awesome day? Finding out your hotel has a water slide.

Thanks to any of you that prayed for good weather, a healthy Justin, and a courageous Eli.
