Day 9 of 17 (Colorado)

From: Loveland, CO
To: Golden, CO
Miles Driven: 104 Today / 2,753 Total
Miles Hiked: 4.1 (some of that was in rain and icy snow-ish stuff)  / 10.6 Total

First of all, yesterday while getting the run down on how to go White Water Rafting I learned that in order to properly row you had to use your core.  It didn't seem like much while doing it (or even when done), but when I woke up this morning, OW! My abs hurt soooo bad.

Now, moving on. Today we headed up to the Rocky Mountains. It was expected to be a brisk 60ish degrees with 20% chance of rain. We heard that they had received snow a few days prior which was not "normal" for this time of the year.

The rangers gave us some recommendations for a few good hikes and we headed up.  The first hike had 3 lakes to stop and look at, but we were told at some point it would be snowed over and the path not visible. We made it just before the 2nd lake and lost the path. We went a little further to try and see the lake and found out later the mound of snow we were standing on was actually where the lake was supposed to be.  On the way up though we hit some light rain and at this point it was icy rain (I'd say snow, but Justin disagreed).

Jordan had been feeling "off" most of the day and a little hot to the touch so I was guessing she was coming down with what Justin had. She perked up when she saw the snow and the kids had fun in the snow for a while before we headed back down and to our next hike to see Alberta Falls, also with some rain.

Despite the rain, it was a pretty beautiful hike. Probably more than we expected to do and with a borderline sick kid, probably more than we should have done, but the views were pretty awesome.

On a side note, although we are doing sandwiches/snacks for every lunch, the eating out for every dinner is getting old. I do miss home cooked meals.
