Today started off pretty fantastic. Justin and I split so we could both meet some friends we'd only known online in person for the first time.
Justin met up with a pastor friend named Jared.
I headed to meet Crystal. The girls insisted on going with me because they'd seen her several times online and were excited to see her.
I totally spent too long talking so we had a late start down to Waco Mammoth National Monument. It was super humid, but for sure not the hottest hike we've done. We saw some bones and hiked around a bit. Not really any good hikes, but just a chance to walk around a bit.
BUUUT it was all downhill from here. We headed to Kemah Boardwalk, but lots of stuff was closed. I mean, it was a Wednesday afternoon so it makes sense. We opted not to do any of the rides though. We did get great dinner though in a restaurant inside an aquarium.
We got to our hotel... it was in some shady downtown Houston area. The first hotel with masks required too (BOOO) and as Eli ran laps in the lobby (which he knows is not acceptable behavior) they told us pool time was reservation only and they had no reservations available. They let us cancel our reservation without penalty because clearly we needed a hotel with space for Eli to burn some energy.
So we found a room, checked in, and found out the pool had some broken concrete. So again... no pool. We gave up at this point. At least this hotel was in a MUCH better area AND we got to drive by NASA on the way which both Justin and Eli were pretty excited about.
